Display Name: Elena Castleworth
Title(s): Countess of Hasmal; Veteran of the Inquisition.
Style(s): Madam, or My Lady.
Specialization: Necromancer; Mortalitasi
Occupation(s): Advisor to King Markus Pentaghast; Previously one of the Senior Enchanters at both the Hasmal Circle and, following a brief transfer, the Cumberland Circle; Previously the representative head of the Lucrosians within the Circle of Magi.
Orientation: Bisexual; Romanceable.
Date of Birth: August 8, 9:14 Dragon.
Birthplace: Hasmal, Free Marches.
Appearance: Elena has two very striking features. The first, and most noticeable, being her exceptionally long, dark brown hair - which reaches just past her waistline (albeit it was said to have been even longer in her youth). The second, and rather captivating, feature of note are her amethyst eyes. Her overall build is supple though slender, and she stands around 5'9". Elena's complexion is somewhat pale; telling of a pampered life spent nowhere near a rural field. Her lips are blood red, but whether or not that is a natural feature remains to be seen.
Signature Scent: Vandal Aria perfume imported from Hasmal, it is a light and green scent similar to honey and freshly cut grass.
Weapons: Masterwork Mortalitasi Staff.
Garments & Armor: She usually wears Mortalitasi Raiments, minus the cowl, but often slips into more fashionable garments when travelling. She is a fan of long gloves and elaborate cloaks.
Inventory: Aside from her staff and a bit of coin, she has very little need to carry unnecessary items. Moreover she disdains carrying anything encumbering and will instead seek to convince someone else to carry all or any tangible burdens.
Coin: Moderate. She carries enough coin on her to cover expenses. Back in Nevarra, given her new position of power, she wants for very little.
Combat Skills: Elena is a Circle-trained mage, specializing in the Way of the Necromancer. She's an experienced Mortalitasi mage, with a particularly strong focus on spirit and death-related magics.
Noncombat Skills: Reading and writing, politics and diplomacy, mummification of dead bodies and an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, non-magical surgical skills, sewing, and highly educated (esp. knowledgeable about the various funeral customs in Thedas).
Language Skills: Common Trade Tongue (fluent); Orlesian (fluent); Tevene (conversational).
Marital Status: Unmarried.
Faction(s): The Mortalitasi; Court of Nevarra; The Inquisition (briefly); Circle of Magi (previously); and the Lucrosians (previously).
Family Member(s): The Castleworths are distant relatives of the Pentaghasts, tracing their bloodline - though many times removed - to King Nestor Pentaghast whom General Tylus Van Markham murdered in the aftermath of the Fourth Blight. This would make Elena very distant cousins with Divine Victoria (Cassandra). It's possible that the Castleworths are likewise distantly related to the Van Markhams as well, given that the Pentaghasts and Van Markhams had been - historically - know to intermarry.
Count Viktor Castleworth IX (father), Countess Emese Castleworth (mother), Count Viktor Castleworth X (eldest brother), Count Benedek Castleworth III (second-eldest brother), Ser Leo Castleworth I (third-eldest brother), Count Endre Castleworth VI (fourth-eldest brother), Ser Emre Castleworth II (fifth-eldest brother), and a number of other Castleworths from the Free Marches and Nevarran regions.
Associated Plots: No Man Left Behind
Personality: She is strong-willed but not impulsive. Elena has an aptitude for diplomacy, when needed, and the ability to make hard decisions, when required. She is slightly intense, and at times zealous, about the things she is passionate about and does not like to waste time with people or notions that are of little service to her (she loathes small talk and gossip). She's naturally curious, which might come off as nosy at times, but this trait stems from her life as an academic. Elena is very confident in her abilities as a mage and, despite being a Necromancer, she does have a reverence for spirits and the dead. She has taken care to study the death rites of other nations and respects the funeral customs of all Thedosian nations, regardless of being Mortalitasi. She enjoys sharing her morbid knowledge and would be open to apprentice younger or inexperienced mages, as well. Though no longer with the Circle of Magi, Elena - who was once a member of the Lucrosian fraternity - does still value wealth and political influence but she sees both as functional tools rather than status symbols. In relationships, Elena is rather open-minded. Her inherent curiosity about life, death, and people has led to her having had many lovers from various walks of life - the common thread being that they either shared in her esoteric interests or were, at least at one point in time, of some strategic use to her.
Backstory: Countess Elena Castleworth was born to Count Viktor Castleworth IX, and his wife Emese, of Hasmal. She is the youngest of six children, with five older brothers: Viktor X, Benedek, Leo, Endre, and Emre. Elena and those of her family are among many counts and countesses hailing from Hasmal, as the city-state is governed by an aristocratic body known as the House of Counts under the leadership of an elected Palantine. She grew up with many privileges, but resented having her overbearing father and overprotective brothers constantly keep watch over her. When her magic manifested itself at the age of thirteen, Elena was actually content with being sent to Hasmal's Circle. The Circle of Magi's structure and rules, though notoriously rigid throughout Thedas, paled in contrast to the stifling home life she had left behind. As of yet, Elena has yet to reconnect with her close family.
Elena excelled at Hasmal's Circle, but her interests and aptitude toward the dead and dealing with spirits led to her specializing in Necromancy at the tender age of sixteen. Somehow, word of her talent for this specialization spread to the Cumberland Circle in Nevarra. It was not long before she was transferred. Her stay at the Cumberland Circle was moreover cut short, when a distant Nevarran relative, an influential political figure, had Elena pulled from the Circle of Magi altogether in order that she'd join the order of death mages known as the Mortalitasi. She was formally inducted after completing the required ritual, that few outside the Mortalitasi know the inner-workings of.
During the Mage-Templar War, Elena did not work directly with the Inquisition, but she was one of the few Mortalitasi mages to distrust the Venatori from the very start. She enthusiastically assisted in purging Nevarra of the Venatori thereafter, and was appointed an advisory position to King Markus for her efforts. Today, she also remains one of his many ambassadors - and spies - when travelling abroad.
